For Saturday
I am thinking that Shepard Fairey is my new favorite artist. He does mixed-media like I have never seen before! I could have literally stayed at his exhibit for hours because each work of art had so much going on. I have so much respect for him as an artist, the immense amount of work that he puts into his art is instantly evident. I will post some of my favorite prints from the exhibit. (They are from his website, not the exhibit itself, so some aspects like the newspaper print in the art will not be as clear. Photos from the actual exhibit will come later.) I left there feeling amazed and empowered. I will do more research on Fairey later this week and will then reflect on the depth of his project.
After I visited the William Bennett Gallery and saw an exhibit on Picasso, Chagall, Miro, Dali, Calder, Rembrandt, and Warhol. It’s always good to see Rembrandt because I feel like Ways of Seeing favored him in a sense. Either that or his art was just a good example of the subject matter. Seeing this exhibit made me consider the value of grouping these artist together. One reason could be because they are for the most part “modern artist,” some more modern then others. Something I really enjoyed was that this exhibit had a more diverse selection of art by Picasso and Dali, which allowed me to see how they grew as artists. I think that I may like more of Dali’s lesser known or mentioned stuff. I feel like it displays more of a Spanish influence and I can connect with it more.
The gallery itself was interesting. It wasn’t very large, but the art was displayed in different rooms and sometimes it was hard to tell which rooms were available to visit and which were not. It was a good day.
